"I know a lot of people doubt long distance relationships, but I am not one of those people. I strongly believe in long distance relationships. I can see why a lot of people doubt it though. Being in a long distance relationship is extremely difficult. Just like any other relationship, they require a lot of trust and communication.
Communication - Phone calls, text messages, i/m’s and webcamming with each other are what keep things going. Instead of looking forward to hanging out with each other, you look forward to the long phone calls and webcamming sessions.
Trust - I know how hard it is to trust people now a days, but hey if there’s no trust, there’s no love. You have got to learn to trust the other person. You cannot say you don’t trust someone unless they have done something wrong. So once they make a mistake, well there’s a reason for you to not trust them. If they have a bad past, you need to remember that people do change. Have your guard up with them, but at the same time learn to trust them.
Reassurance - You don’t have to let the other person know you want/like/love them all the time, but it is important. You can’t be with the other person physically. So the best way to do it is through your words and efforts. Let them know you miss them. Let them know you care. And you can do that by taking the time and communicating with them. (Phone calls, text messages, etc ETC.)
You’re going to feel love sick majority of the time. Always wanting and wishing the other person was with you. You’re going to always crave the affection. There’s going to be times where you two argue and when you guys make up, you’re going to wish you were with the other person so you guys could kiss and make up. Or maybe even have make up sex (which happens to be the best kind of sex).
There’s no such thing as a perfect couple. Arguments will occur every now and then. There’s going to be times where you feel like giving up. But don’t let distance get in the way of being with the person you want/like/love. Don’t let it be the reason for you not being able to be with the person you want to be with. When you two finally see or spend time with each other, you’ll then realize that everything that happened in the past was worth it. Everytime you two spend time with each other it’ll be extra special. You’ll learn to cherish those moments because you know they don’t happen often.
We all know the best things in life don’t come easy. So if you ever feel like giving up, just remember why you held on for so long. Patience is the key." -cindyxlove (tumblr)
